Groovy

I FINALLY finished rewriting the first damn chapter of my novel. That took entirely too long. Those pesky short stories kept distracting me. Also the occasional game of Mahjong, but let us not speak of that procrastination-enabling beast.

I initially said I had finished "revising" the chapter, but "rewriting" is far more apt. I recycled some stuff from the original version, but I had to rewrite a lot of it from scratch. Out with the headache-inducing prophecy and "As you know, Bob" spewing walk-on characters, in with more moral ambiguity and a new bit of back story for the antagonist and the chapter's POV character. The toughest bit was trying to streamline the recycled bits into the rewrite. Apparently my style is a lot different than it was a few years ago when I wrote the novel. But that's a good thing.

On an unrelated note, I seem to be suffering from a blog-specific form of writer's block. I keep reading entries that I would normally comment on, but when I click to reply, my brain just goes, "Sorry, I've got nothing." Stupid brain.

On another note, I think I'm having a blog-specific writer's block. I keep reading entries that I would normally comment on, but when I click to reply, my brain just goes, "Sorry, I've got nothing." Stupid brain.

Will you be posting it eventually? *poke*

I was going to wait until more of it's done, but if I'm going to get poked...

Of course, my crits have been non-existent on that site lately. Which reminds me, someone posted a zombie story I need to get to. :)

No, I think waiting for more is a good policy, hence the "eventually". I've decided not to post any chapters of anything anymore until the whole draft is done.

As to the zombie thing, it's a bit long and daunting, so I'm happy to wait for a good crit. I've gotten a few on FW, but they've been awfully gushy--which is nice, of course, but not ultimately helpful.

Now that I'm no longer bogged down in the mass o' crits I had to do for my summer workshop, I might finally be able to crit something long and daunting before the month is out.
